Lesson Title: SIMON WANTS TO BUY POWER

Faith Pathway/Faith Journey Topic: Power Brokers

UNIFYING PRINCIPLE:

Some people try to buy power. What are the consequences of inappropriately seeking power? When Simon the magician tried to buy the power of the Holy Spirit, Peter plainly laid out the fatal consequences for those who thought that the Spirit can be bought or sold.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

One of the most important truths revealed in this lesson is the power of preaching the simple message of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Phillip did not use gimmicks, promises of prosperity, or declarations filled with false hopes. He merely offered the gift of salvation and the forgiveness of sins through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ at Calvary.

Similarly, if the church of this generation wants to make a bigger impact in the world, she must preach—without fear—the uncompromising truth of the Gospel.

PRAYER:

Lord God, grant that we may never be unduly influenced in compromising our faith in You for worldly possessions of power. May we find in You all that we need to be fully satisfied. Grant that we may never lose heart in our work of ministry. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
